Flinders University Defence Science Partnership Research Scholarship in Australia for 2022/2023

We are seeking an exceptional candidate for a Defence Science Partnership Research Scholarship to undertake research in the area of machine learning and its applications to communication systems. This Defence Science Partnership Research Scholarship project aims to create a fully trainable AI-enabled radio that can sense the operating environment and autonomously generate secure, high throughput, and resilient tactical waveforms to sustain mission-critical communications. The research project will also analyze different machine learning and AI techniques for building generative models for wireless communication channels and RF devices.

Flinders University is a public research university in Adelaide, South Australia. It was established in 1966 and was named in honor of British navigator Matthew Flinders, who researched and surveyed the South Australian coastline in the early 19th century.

Flinders is a verdant university and a member of the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) Group. Academically, the university pioneered a cross-disciplinary technique to education, and its faculties of medicine and the humanities have been rated among the nation’s top 10.

The 2021 Times Higher Education ranking of the world’s top universities rate Flinders University in the 251 – 300th bracket. Flinders University’s main campus is in the Adelaide inner southern suburb of Bedford Park, about 12 km south of the Adelaide city center.

The university has a presence in Victoria Square in the center of the city, and Tonsley. Flinders University also maintains several external teaching facilities in regional South Australia, southwest Victoria, and the Northern Territory. As of 2020 international scholars made up 19.5% of the on-campus student population and several offshore programs are also offered, mainly in the Asia-Pacific region.

Flinders University offers more than 160 undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as higher degree research leadership across all disciplines. Also, many courses use new information and communication technologies to supplement face-to-face teaching and provide flexible options.

The Defence Science Partnership Research Scholarship includes:

  • A stipend valued at $30,000 per annum tax-free
  • The Defence Science Partnership Research Scholarship will be awarded for two years
  • A Research Training Program Fee Offset Scholarship covers tuition fees for Australian Citizens, NZ Citizens, and Permanent Residents.
  • There is a possibility to transform ME into a Ph.D. research and extend the scholarship to three years.

Eligibility for Defence Science Partnership Research Scholarship

To be qualified for the award of this Defence Science Partnership Research Scholarship, a student must: –

  • be an Australian citizen or New Zealand citizen, or have been granted permanent resident status; and
  • meet ME admission requirements
  • be available to start as a full-time ME student at Flinders University in semester 1, 2022.
